BERNIE DEEM

On December 1, 2023, our Charleston SHRM Chapter lost one of its most dedicated, energetic, and knowledgeable HR professionals, Bernie Deem.  Bernie was someone that always had an answer to any problem or issue you had and was always available to help you out.  Not only did Bernie, Principal for Align HR, work with many people in the HR community, she collaborated with many companies throughout her career to prepare management employees with the tools they needed to be successful in their careers.   

Bernie was someone that once you met her, not only did you know you were in the presence of an HR Guru, but you also walked away with a friend for life.   She truly had a gift to connect with people and she also made you feel respected and valuable.  She also would ask your opinion on issues and help you think about processes to incorporate into the situation. 

It will take a lot to fill her shoes but having had Bernie around to help you with your HR issues, we will be better going forward for the use of her knowledge and the skills she gave us to do so.

We wish her family peace and comfort for her passing and hopefully their memories with her will fill the void of her absence.
